About RSS Feeds

RSS is a modern Internet technology used to publish online content and notify users when that content is updated. RSS sources are called “news feeds,” “rss feeds” or more simply, “feeds.”
Users subscribe to those feeds using programs or services known as “feed readers.”
For a simple overview of the concept in plain English, watch this short video from commoncraft.com:
Pretty straight-forward, isn’t it?
The Plan Your Meetings website offers such a feed. You can use it to get updates from PYM and stay current with our announcements, contests and industry news coverage. The Plan Your Meetings feed address is:

Online Services
To use an RSS feed, you must first choose a feed reader. Many current web browsers have built-in RSS capabilities.
Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 and Mozilla Firefox both use the common orange icon to indicate a site’s feed, while Apple’s Safari browser uses a blue rectangle surrounding the letters “RSS.”
Additionally, as the video mentions, there are a number of free websites that handle RSS subscription and aggregation services. Some of the more popular sites are:
Google Reader (

My Yahoo (

Offline Readers
The more adventurous among you may wish to use an “offline reader.” Offline readers are separate programs that download and save new feed items when you’re connected to the Internet. You can then read them after you have disconnected.
For Mac users, PYM recommends NetNewsWire. For Windows users, we recommend SharpReader.
So, go on, grab a reader and stay up-to-date with Plan Your Meetings and all your favorite websites.
