Flu 101: New Web site promoting preparedness

Published: August 2, 2009

The swine flu pandemic last spring did more than scare citizens around the world, it showed the government just how unprepared the U.S. was for future medical outbreaks. As the fall flu season approaches, government and health officials met at the H1N1 Influenza Preparedness Summit to discuss ways to better protect the population at large. Forthcoming plans include a voluntary vaccination program for the current H1N1 strain, but will likely not be available until mid-October. In the meantime, they are encouraging the public to take precautions by regularly washing hands and staying home when sick.

Visit Flu.gov for information on how to protect yourself and those who attend your events.
