Meeting, travel professionals hope to raise awareness with May 12 rallies
Published: May 11, 2009
One out of every eight American jobs is linked to the travel and tourism industry, which generates $115 billion in tax revenue for local, state and federal governments. Without the tax revenue generated by travel and tourism, each U.S. household would pay an additional $988 in taxes. To raise awareness of these and other facts about the travel, tourism and meetings industry, the U.S. Travel Association is encouraging industry professionals to host rallies on May 12 to promote the message that “Travel Matters.”
This first-ever U.S. Travel Rally Day will officially kick off National Travel and Tourism Week (May 9-17). Non-profit organization Keep America Meeting is asking meeting professionals to download banners and signs from its site to take to the rallies. Pictures may be uploaded to its Facebook page. Twitterers can communicate support by putting #rallyday tags on tweets.
