Hurricane Dolly
At the end of July, Hurricane Dolly hit South Texas, with the brunt of the storm falling on South Padre Island. Many hotels and condominium units are currently closed, undergoing repairs and renovation, but are scheduled to reopen this fall. The Radisson Resort South Padre Island is expected to reopen on Nov. 15. The Sheraton South Padre Island Beach Hotel & Condominiums is scheduled to reopen on Oct. 31. Hurricane Gustav
The hurricane passed through the Gulf of Mexico Labor Day weekend with much fanfare, but less impact than expected.
Hurricane Hannah
The tropical cyclone was blamed for drowning deaths off the coasts of Florida and New Jersey, but caused no substantial damage to U.S. cities. Storm surge did cause significant flooding in Turks and Caicos and Haiti, which were hit again by Ike.
Hurricane Ike
Ike is expected to make landfall in Texas early Saturday morning as a Category 3 hurricane near Galveston and Corpus Christi. Storm warnings have been issued for New Orleans and Baton Rouge, La., as well as Alabama and Mississippi coastal communities.
