New hospitality and green initiatives for Denver

Published: August 13, 2008

The Denver Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau has created “Go the EXTRA Mile,” a hospitality training program, in preparation for the Aug. 25-28 Democratic National Convention (DNC). So far, 2,400 people and 500 hotels, restaurants and hospitality businesses have participated in the program.

According to a recent PYM survey, three out of four planners say that great customer service is the No. 1 reason for repeat business. And that’s what Communications Director for the Denver Metro CVB Rich Grant hopes will happen for Denver. Whether this happens or not, this program will benefit meeting and event planners.

In addition to the hospitality program, Denver is launching green initiatives for the DNC, they include:

  • “Lean and green” dining options at Denver restaurants
  • Reusable water bottles and water bottle-filling stations throughout convention venues
  • Walking/biking maps and pedometers will be supplied to DNC delegates
  • Light rail and alternatively-fueled buses
  • 1,000 bicycles will be available to attendees, and the Colorado Convention Center will have a permanent bike station
  • Recycling bins throughout event areas
