A new, green Advantage
May 7, 2008Advantage Rent A Car says it will become the first major American rental company to have a 100 percent “green” fleet of cars within the next 24 months, subject to manufacturer’s assistance and vehicle availability. On a local level, companies such as Elite Green Car in Atlanta already have converted to 100 percent eco-friendly fleets; national carriers such as Enterprise are converting portions of its fleet in select cities. But Advantage aims to make a nationwide commitment.
“We hope to not only serve the leisure traveler looking for a green alternative, but also the government or corporate traveler who have committed to reduction of emissions as well,” says Chief Operating Officer Mick Anselmo.
Chairman Denny Hecker announced the company’s impending fleet conversion at the American Car Rental Show in Las Vegas earlier this month. Hecker says the company’s single ownership (it is privately held by Denny Hecker Family Venture) and nimble fleet size will mean a quick conversion.
Advantage Rent A Car has headquarters in San Antonio, Texas, and Minneapolis, Minn. The company has more than 36 international affiliates and 100 rental locations in the U.S.
