Sheraton and Four Points by Sheraton to go smoke-free

More than 300 Sheraton and Four Points by Sheraton hotels and resorts throughout the U.S., Caribbean and Canada will become smoke-free properties by the end of this year. Roughly 70 U.S. Sheraton and Four Points already have banned smoking in rooms and public areas. In preparation for the new policy, an additional 8,000 smoking rooms will undergo an extensive cleaning process to eliminate allergens from all hard surfaces, walls, carpets, soft goods and air-conditioning units.

“Our core customers are road warriors who … endure a rigorous travel schedule,” says Hoyt Harper II, senior vice president for Sheraton Hotels & Resorts and Four Points by Sheraton. “We are committed to the health and quality of life of our guests and associates, and that includes providing a clean, smoke-free environment.”

Sister brand Westin became the first hotel chain to ban smoking in January 2006, when properties in the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean went smoke-free; Westin properties in Australia, Fiji and Scotland since have followed suit. Other smoke-free hotel brands include Marriott (JW Marriott, The Ritz-Carlton, Renaissance, Courtyard, Residence Inn, SpringHill Suites, Fairfield Inn, TownePlace Suites and Marriott ExecuStay), Comfort Suites and Walt Disney World Resorts.
