Hyatt launches brand for young, affluent travelers

Published: December 17, 2007

Nearly 18 new luxury hotel brands have launched between 2005 and 2007, but that didn’t deter Hyatt from opening the first of its Andaz (Hindi for “personal style”) hotels last month.

The Andaz Liverpool Street London offers unlimited clothes washing and pressing, and doesn’t charge extra for breakfast, water, minibar items, local phone calls, on-demand films or Internet access. Other amenities aimed at attracting a young, sophisticated crowd include digital, rather than paper-based, in-room information; individualized room designs; a living room-style lobby; and eco-friendly amenities, such as vacuum flush toilets.

Room rates start at $750 for the 267-room hotel. Properties slated to open stateside include an Andaz Wall Street (late 2008) and a Fifth Avenue property (2009) in New York. In California, the Hyatt West Hollywood is undergoing conversion to open as an Andaz next year.
