The Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center, near Washington, D.C., and the Prince George’s County liquor board are at loggerheads over the $800 million resort’s liquor license. The resort, which applied for a license with an annual $2,750 fee, has asked a judge to compel the county license commissioners to issue the license before the resort’s scheduled April 2008 opening. The liquor board insists the county hasn’t the appropriate class of license for the massive resort, and that the resort must receive a permit from the General Assembly.

The 2,000-room resort will have 10 acres of meeting space, and be the largest convention hotel on the East Coast. More than 900,000 room nights have been booked. But without a liquor license, the hotel will be unable to open and operate as planned.
