Damage from Dean less than expected

Published: September 4, 2007

The first major hurricane of the season caused only minimal or negligible damage to hotel and resort properties in Jamaica, St. Lucia and the Mexican cities of Cozumel, Cancun and the Riveria Maya.

Hurricane Dean did wreak havoc on Mexico’s cruise port of Costa Maya. With only 50 percent of its infrastructure intact, the port is expected to be shut down for at least six months. In the meantime, cruise ships are substituting other cities on itineraries.
