New York passes passenger bill of rights
Published: September 4, 2007
New York has passed a passenger bill of rights requiring airlines to provide certain services to passengers stuck on the tarmac for more than three hours. Under the new law, airlines must provide electric-generation service for fresh air and lights, waste removal from onboard restrooms, and drinking water, snacks and other refreshments for passengers stranded for an excessive length of time. In addition, airlines must provide passengers with details of the bill and instructions on filing complaints. Penalties for non-compliance can range up to $1,000 per passenger.
