New Orleans convention center expansion cancelled
Published: September 4, 2007
On Aug. 22, the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center board of directors voted to cancel the Phase IV expansion project, which had been on hold since fall 2005. The money formerly earmarked for the expansion will be spent on renovations upgrading the center’s furniture, lighting and technology, instead.
Since 2005, more than $60 million has been spent on restoring and renovating the convention center. The land purchased for the expansion will be retained for a future expansion project.
