Hurricanes? Get hassle-free refunds.
Published: June 12, 2007
With the arrival of hurricane season, travel vendors and hotels are working to make hurricane-prone areas less stressful places to do business this summer and fall.
Marriott International reinstated its 2006 Caribbean Travel Interruption Promise, which provides full refunds or one-category room upgrades to travelers unable to use confirmed rooms because of stormy weather at participating Caribbean and Mexican resorts between June and Nov. 30, 2007. Expedia.com has a Hassle-free Hurricane Promise to waive cancellation fees, help customers re-book disrupted trips, and to act as an advocate for customers with the Web portal’s travel partners if a trip is cancelled due to hurricane activity. Some airlines, such as Spirit, will allow travelers to rebook without cancellation fees as soon as the National Hurricane Center declares a watch or warning. Many hotel properties, such as the Sheraton New Orleans and Orlando’s Disney and Universal-branded hotels and resorts, have similar “peace of mind” policies in place.
