Forty-four new hotels planned for San Antonio
Published: April 2, 2007
More than 21 million visitors flock to San Antonio every year. The city’s strong convention and tourism business, combined with the relatively inexpensive cost of land, has made San Antonio America’s fastest-growing hotel construction market; this year alone, construction will begin on 7,360 new rooms in 44 hotels.
The biggest hotel under construction is the $285 million, 34-story Grand Hyatt Convention Center Hotel, which will have 1,000 rooms and 147 luxury condominiums. Most of the new construction is on limited-service properties near the airport, along highways and by Sunset Station, a special events venue in the historic St. Paul Square district.
