Celebrity pulls the plug on Sin City project

Published: June 30, 2006

Actor George Clooney and developer Jorge Perez scrapped plans for building the well-publicized, 11-tower hotel, condominium and casino complex Las Ramblas in Las Vegas. Reasons cited included a softening condo market, high construction costs and lack of hands-on casino management experience. The land for the proposed project was sold to the W Las Vegas hotel for $202 million, more than twice what Clooney and Perez bought it for last year.
