Mississippi’s Gulf Coast bouncing back

Published: December 1, 2005

Along Mississippi’s Gulf Coast, attractions, hotels and restaurants are beginning to reopen. Charter boats for deepwater fishing are already carrying near-capacity loads. Most of the coast’s golf courses are expected to open by January.

Many restaurants, including the Biloxi landmark Mary Mahoney’s, have reopened. The Isle of Capri, Imperial Place and the Palace are planning to reopen their casinos by late December or early January.

Room availability is currently limited to 26 percent, but that percentage will increase steadily through 2006 as emergency workers and contractors complete post-Katrina projects.
