Daufuskie Island: Island retreat
Want to break out of the boardroom?
The Daufuskie Equestrian Center can host small meetings, banquets and receptions in its Sportsman’s Lodge. The center’s grounds have been used for barbecues, weddings and polo matches, and may be tented. Horses also are available for guided beach, trail and carriage rides, and riding clinics.
Want golf-themed events and activities?
The Melrose Course is a Jack Nicklaus signature course that winds through maritime forests, finishing with three oceanfront holes. Bloody Point Course, named for an Indian-Pioneer battle held there in the 1700s, provides for more open play, running along the Intracoastal Waterway. The Bloody Point Clubhouse is one of the island’s unusual meeting and banquet venues, and it is next to the Daufuskie Island Resort & Breathe Spa, which has golf-specific treatments. Banquet space also is available at the Melrose Clubhouse (Jack’s Place), and PGA-certified instructors are available for group or individual instruction.
Want unusual transportation?
Guests can tour the island by bike or GEM Cars — street safe, low-speed electric vehicles. Golf carts are a fun way to get around the resort.
Want to go where the locals do?
The island only has 250 full-time residents, but you wouldn’t know it unless you visited Marshside Mama’s, a colorful bar/restaurant. Its gigantic pig has passed on, but it’s still worth a trip to soak up local color.
Want to team-build?
In addition to golf and the award-winning Breathe Spa, Daufuskie Island is known for its Melrose Tennis Center, which has eight courts, including two for night play. Two additional oceanview courts are available at Bloody Point. The resort can help planners set up group tennis lessons or tournaments. Other options include poker tournaments, hayrides and beachside Olympics at the Beach Club.
