By Ashley L. Brazzel

Want flexible venues?

Heritage Green is in the heart of Sandy Springs and has a “quintessential Georgia” garden setting, an outdoor entertainment lawn and three meeting rooms for up to 180 people. Also on-site is the Williams-Payne House, a house museum and events venue dating back to 1869. The home has space for intimate events and showcases 600 historical artifacts such as books, maps and manuscripts. The 1420 Room accommodates up 450 people reception-style in its airy, modern spaces. Décor highlights include Corinthian columns and crystal chandeliers. An adjoining 2,000-sq. ft. lounge room has a granite bar, hardwood floors and a fabric ceiling. The entire facility is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and wireless Internet. The Ravinia Club has multiple spaces for corporate and social events, including private dining and conference rooms outfitted with the latest audiovisual equipment.

Want group dining?

Ray’s on the River is a local favorite that serves fresh steak and seafood. Groups of up to 200 can dine privately/semi-privately indoors; its outdoor garden overlooking the Chattahoochee River can be tented and holds up to 120. One of four locations in the city, Ruth’s Chris Steak House has seven private dining rooms for 10 to 60 guests. Slope’s BBQ of Sandy Springs serves authentic Georgia-style barbecue, using premium meats and its signature sauce. There’s semi-private space for groups up to 50, and anything on the menu can be catered off-premise. 5 Seasons Brewing has a menu of handcrafted beers and hearty dishes that are seasonally selected and rotated based on local growing seasons. Its Prado location has meeting and event space for small to medium-sized groups. Aldo’s Italian Restaurant has a lengthy wine list and an extensive menu of homestyle Italian dishes. Several private dining rooms accommodate up to 70 guests.

Want a central meeting locale?

Directly across from Perimeter Mall is the Crowne Plaza Atlanta Perimeter at Ravinia, which has more than 32,000-sq. ft. of meeting space, including 11 meeting rooms and a 6,000-sq. ft. exhibit hall. Complimentary shuttles will take attendees to the MARTA station at Perimeter Mall, which connects directly to the airport, midtown arts district and downtown convention sites. It’s also a stone’s throw from restaurants such as Goldfish and Maggiano’s Little Italy, and Spa Sydell’s Park Place location, which can provide on-site or mobile spa services for your group.

Want caterers?

Since 1993, Post Exchange Catering has been specializing in corporate catering to some of Atlanta’s top businesses. In addition to China and linen rental, they offer free delivery on all orders of 75 meals or more. Brickery Catering is a full-service firm with on-site event space at the Brickery Grill & Bar. Divine Events Catering is a preferred caterer at several facilities throughout the city and offers Kosher-style cuisine and event design. Art of Food has over 100 years of combined experience and creates themed-food stations for a variety of corporate and social events.

Want extreme group activities?

Groups looking for adventure can find it along 20 miles of Chattahoochee River shoreline. Popular activities include rafting, kayaking and canoeing. There’s also 260 acres of parkland that’s open for group events and hikes within the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.

What you should know:

The sixth-largest city in Georgia, Sandy Springs is an affluent suburb just north of Atlanta's tony Buckhead neighborhood. With its central location and easy highway access, groups are in close proximity to Atlanta's major attractions (downtown is less than 15 minutes away) as well as the amenities of the surrounding towns, such as Roswell.

What will surprise you:

Although Sandy Springs history dates back to the mid-1800s, it only recently became an incorporated city (in December 2005); it was previously considered part of Atlanta. In 2009, when hotel occupancy rates were slumping, Sandy Springs was above the national average by four percent, leading other metro Atlanta areas.
